THE NEW rear-steer lvec. 220.38 is an extremely well-ba anced vehicle to drive, report Graham Montgomerie.

On a visit to the Iveco teF. track at La Mandria in Italy I wa able to try one of the vehicle destined for Ferrymasters.

Although the 220.38 was solc it was nevertheless laden to 1 tonnes gross yet third low of th 13-speed Fuller gearbox wa more than adequatefor startin! from rest.

The suspension — with air oi all but the steering axle — wa superb, giving a very even rid, which was made even more evi dent when I tried a 4x2 versioi of the Same basic specification.

Although the 4x2 was gooc the three-axle chassis had till edge both on ride and on stabi lity under braking.

The latter was an impressiv, feature of the 6x2 Iveco as then was very little chassis dip evei under hard braking on a dry high grip surface.

As for tight manoeuvring, thi 220.38 was excellent, whicl bodes well for its performanci complete with semi-trailer.
