Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT is now known that the brake' operating units to be used on the Seddon 16:four described in The Commercial Motor of November 5 will be new Clayton Dewandre designs which combine a diaphragm and a piston, not

the Westinghouse dual-diaphragm chambers credited to the model in the chassis description.

The newly developed Clayton Dewandre units are designated DP and they carry out the functions of main and emergency braking in the same way as dualand triple-diaphragm chambers already in use. They are designed for backplate mounting—as on the Seddon 16:four. With wedge-operated brakes, front units have a push action whilst on rear units there is a pull action with a through mechanical connection for the handbrake linkage. Units suitable for use in conjunction with cam-operated brakes are reported to have been developed also.

The DP units are essentially pistontype brake chambers with diaphragmtype chambers mounted to them. The construction can be seen from the accompanying drawings and the basic difference between puller and pusher types is that the piston and diaphragm portions are transposed — with the diaphragm nearest to the mounting side on the pusher and remote from it on the puller. In both cases the piston is shaped to follow the contour of the diaphragm and the cylinder cover, and the piston side is used for service braking and the diaphragm for the emergency brakes circuit.

It has also been brought to our attention that the standard tyre equipment on the Seddon 16:four is 10.00-20 all round and that the steering unit employed on the model is a Marks Type 890.
