OF the 12 vehicles on these six stands II are from the Ford D Series and Transit van ranges introduced this year, the latter only a month ago. There are six examples of the Transit range, representing five different models, but the five D Series chassis consist of four D.800 models and one D.300. The odd man out is a Ford Anglia 7 cwt. van. Bringing the Ford exhibits to 13,, one exhibitor is showing a sectioned 360 cu in. diesel engine.

The Anglia van is displayed by George and Johling and accompanying it on the stand is a Transit 17 cwt. van which has a sliding door on the driver's side and a hinged door on the nearside. Like all the Transits in Kelvin Hall the George and Jobling exhibit is fitted with the new Ford 101, V4 petrol engine—none has the Perkins diesel option. The Ford unit fitted is the 1.7-litre version which gives a maximum net =put of 65 b.h.p. at 4,750 r.p.m. and maximum net torque of 86.5 lb.ft. at 3,000 r.p.m. The Transit uses the same gearbox as earlier Thames vans, but suspension is by semi-elliptic springs all round. .

Two Transits are exhibited by John M. Millar. One is a standard 22 cwt. van with 1-7-litre engine, the other a 35 cwt. chassis/cab with the 2-litre V4 engine and a truck body by B. Walker and Son. Ltd., of Watford. The 2-litre engine is fitted to the three higher-weight Transit vans—nominal payload capacities of 25, 30 and 35 cwt.—and produces 77 b.h.p. net at 4,750 r.p.m. and a maximum net torque of 107.5 lb. ft. at 2,750 r.p.m. These three models also are different in respect of wheelbase, this dimension being 9 ft. 10 in., as against 8 ft. 10 in. for the 12, 1,7 and 22 cwt.-capacity Transit models.

The remaining three examples of the Transit are shown by Wylie's, Croft and Paisley. Wylie's show a 30 cwt. chassis/ windshield version as a mobile butcher's shop with bodywork by Smiths Delivery Vehicles Ltd., whilst Croft features a 30 cwt. Custom van. Paisley Motor Co. is featuring the only Ford p.s.v. in Kelvin Hall, this being the 15-seat version of the Transit.

James A. Laidtaw has two D.800 models on display, one with a platform body, the other a short-wheelbase tipper chassis/cab. The D.800 displayed by Croft is a tractive unit and that on the stand of Wylie's has a 2,090-gal. milk tank by A. B. M. Tulloch Ltd. and will be operated by East Kil bride Dairy Farmers.

Paisley is exhibiting a D.300 with dropside body and also on this stand there is the sectioned 360 cu. in. diesel engine.
