1\ AAIN interest on this stand is certain al to be a Maxim 6 X 4 model which is fitted with the new Perkins V8.510 diesel engine. But operators engaged on delivery work will also be interested in the Pamvan Mk. It which is featured by Dennis at'Kelvin Hall and was described in The Commercial Motor, October 22. A third exhibit is a Maxim tractive unit. On the demonstration park Dennis have a Paravan II and also a Maxim 6 x 4 fitted with a Cummins V8 engine, the standard power unit for this range of models.

The Maxim six-wheeler on the stand is, in fact, a prototype vehicle and the property of Perkins Engines Ltd. Power output of the V8 engine is 170 b.h.p. at 2,800 r.p.m. and maximum torque is 380 lb. ft. at 1,500 r.p.m. The drive is .taken through a Dennis five-speed gear

box to the Moss tandem-drive, two-speed rear bogie and the Show exhibit has a 15-ft 9-in, wheelbase and. is fitted with

a drop-side. body.

A number of .improvements have been made for the Mk. II version of the Paravan. These include the use of a Perkins 4.236 dieselengine and the Dennis UH five-speed, close-ratio constant-mesh 'gearbox. The general chassis design remains the same, however, this providing facilities for ease of movement between the nearside of the vehicle

• and the driver's seat and from the driver's seat into the body. Tyres fitted are 8.25-17, which allow the laden frame height to be around 2 ft. 6 in.
