Three lions were being carried in a cage on a trailer when an examiner attached to the office of the East Midland Licensing Authority inspected the vehicle and found that it was not fitted with an efficient braking system, and that there was danger of the rear axle corning adrift.
At Newark Police Court, the exafniner stated that had the axle become detached, the trailer would have collapsed, the cage would probably have broken, and the lions would have escaped. One defendant was fined £2 and the others 25 each, and 10s. 6d. •costs:
