Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

11111IS company manufactures both

goods and passenger chassis, as well as bodies, and perhaps the most important exhibit is the blue-and-silver Emperor double-saloon bus, which is -equipped with the new Vulcan Monarch six-e3liudered Ricardo-type engine, the bore and stroke of which are 110 mm. and 130 mm. This engine is of unusual appearance and design, and readers will remember that it was fnlly described in our issue dated October 29th. The Chassis has a wheelbase of 16 ft. 6 ins., the overall length of the vehicle being 25 ft. 64 ins. The frame is up-swept at the rear of the forward-control cab and arched over the -worm-driven axle.

The body, which is of composite wood-and-metal framework, has seating accommodation for 51 paSengers, the upper saloon being arranged with eight transverse banks of three seats upon a raised central platform and a gangway along each side—a form of construction which permits a low overall height with ample headroom in both upper-saloon and lower-saloon gang-ways. The staircase is fully enclosed.

The Prince model 32-seater bus shown has a ton r-cylindered engine of 110 rem. bore and 140 rem. stroke. The engine is of the same dimensions as that fitted in the 20-seater all-weather coach, but it is of the Ricardo type. The gearbox provides four forward -speeds and there is worm drive to the -rear axle. Servo brakes act upon both frent and rear wheels, which, incidentally, are shod with 36-in, by 6-in. pneumatic tyres, twins at the rear. The wheelbase is 16 ft. 1 in. and the height of the frame when loaded is 1 ft. 11 ins.

The Duchess chassis which is shown carries a 20-seater all-weather coach body, but it is suitable fer 26-seater bus bodies. In the place of the fourcyliudered engine fitted, a six-cylindered unit can be supplied, if necessary. The wheelbase is 15 ft. 1 in. The machine has a four-speed gearbox and servo brakes on all wheels, in addition to a hand-operated brake on the rear wheels: This brings us to the selection of

goods chassis exhibited. The 30-cwt. normal-control model is shown equipped with end-tipping body, This machine has a four-cylindered engine, rated at 17.9 h.p., the bore and stroke beiwe' respectively 85 mm. and 130 mm. The cylinder head is detachable, all engine parts and auxiliaries being accessibly arranged. Steel disc wheels are equipped

with 33-in by 5-in, pneumatic tyres at the front and 34-in. by 7-in. tyres at the rear. The clutch is of the cone type and the gearbox provides four forward speeds and a reverse.

A similar machine is the 30-cwt. forward-control model, this being shown as a chassis so that it may be closely inspected. The engine, clutch, gearbox, transmission, brakes, equipment, etc., are of the same type as those on the normal-control machine shown, the tyres, however, being different ; 720 mm. by 90 mm. solid singles are carried on the front wheels, twin tyres being fitted at the rear. At an extra charge 32-in. by 6-in, pneumatics may be fitted all round.

The Shaftesbury low-loader, which is a particularly useful type of forwardcontrol 35-ewt, goods vehicle, also has four-cylindered engine of 85 mm. bore and 130 ram. stroke. The design has specially been developed to obtain a suitable machine for refuse-collection work, and it is shown at Olympia complete with a body and tipping gear intended for this purpose, these being supplied by the Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd., of Warwick. It has 26-in. by 5-in. solid tyres on the front wheels and 26-in. by 4-in. twin solids on the rear wheels. It should be mentioned that a 3-ton lowloader of a similar type is Rise built.

The 2-ton forward-control chassis has a four-cylindered engine of 100 nun. bore and 130 ram. stroke, the wheelbase being 11 ft. 11 ins, and giving a small turning circle. A feature to be noticed is that of the swinging front mudguards, which give access to the engine. The chassis is shown with a cab and body.
