Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DECISION has been reserved at the end of a two-day licensing battle over who is to provide night services between Glasgow and East Kilbride, Kirkintilloch and Cumbernauld, before the Scottish Traffic Commissioners.

Central Scottish and Midland Scottish are being opposed by Strathclyde PTE. The PTE is being opposed by Central and Midland.

Discussions before the hearing led to an agreement between Strathclyde and two other Scottish Bus Group companies, Western Scottish and Eastern Scottish, over the provision of other night services.

The Commissioners were told that there were no night services at present between Glasgow, East Kilbride, Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch. SBG felt Strathclyde co-ordinators ought to have invited it to provide the night services.

Strathclyde argued that it was the provider of the existing network of night services in the Glasgow area and the logical operator of an extended network.

Reserving decision, the Commissioners' chairman, Hugh McNamara, said they were a complex set of applications and it was likely to be two to three weeks before the Commissioners were in a position to give a decision.
