THE Ferraris Flex-Twin-Six sixwheeler extension unit, made by A. Ferraris, Ltd., 200-220, -The Broadway, Cricklewood, London, N.W.2, as applied to the Chevrolet 30-cwt. chassis has attained some success and the latest. arrangement of the radius rods is interesting. The standard Chevrolet driving-axle springs aret replaced by a pair of inverted semi-ellipties, the ends of which are connected to shackle brackets on the driving and trailing axles, the points of anchorage 'being below the axles. The main leaves have forged eyes, so as to resist torque and Silentbloe bushes are employed for the rpring pins.

Each axle has a pair of forward-extending east-iron radius rods, with large spherical bearings, the forward ends of these rode being attached to brackets at positions slightly below the frame members. The radius rods for the trailing axle have their rear bearings on upward extensions of the cast shackle brackets which, in turn, are pressed on to the tubular axle end, and have the brakedrum cover plates fixed to them.

The radius rods for the driving axle have their bearings actually around the

axle case, an arrangement which gives a large bearings diameter. These radius rods take the driving and braking thrust, whilst those on the trailing axle take most of the braking thrust and torque.

The brake actuation is entirely by rods and levers, the pedal applying brakes on all six wheels. The brake drums, actuating mechanism and shoes, as well as the wheels, are all genuine Chevrolet.parts, whilst-the hubs of the trailing-axle wheels are of special design, each embodying two tapered roller

bearings of large size. ThOtrailing axle has an enter diameter of 24 ins., and each inverted spring has 13 leaves.
