leciprocating saws

o portable reciprocating-saw unitsodels 700H and 701H—featuring double sulation and radio suppression and built for ntinuous heavy duty, are announced by The saws have a blade that moves forward d back, parallel with the longitudinal shaft of

e machine. The length of the stroke is fin. d the blade is slightly canted to give fast tting and long blade-life. A multi-position ot allows operaters to bring unused portions the blade into the cutting position, and to oose the most convenient position for erent cutting jobs. The off-centre blade ounting allows it to cut close to upright rfaces and corners. A top-mounted handle .usts in three positions and can be removed r working in tight spots.

These multi-purpose saws are designed r fast and effortless rip and cross Cut jobs, unge cuts and scroll cutting are also possible. th models are of light weight. The burnoutotected motor has an input rating of 750W. Model 700H has two speeds and is suitable cutting a wide range of materials. The ker switch can be set on 3,000 strokes per nute for cutting wood, composition materials d plastics, and on 2,300 strokes per minute non-ferrous and other soft metals. Model 701H is a metal cutting saw with a eed of 1,200 strokes per minute and can used for cutting all sorts of metals of erent gauge and density: at 850 strokes minute it will cut stainless steel, cast iron d other hard alloys. This speed is also itable for cutting polyester and pertinax. A wide selection of sawblades for all sorts

of materials, and a practical attachment which threads into the tool, in place of the regular foot, to provide a rugged, built-in vice are available. The vice will clamp bar-steel, pipe and angle-icon securely for fast and accurate cutting and will hold stock from iin. to 5in. in diameter.

Pumping unit

The Lubrication Systems Division of Tecalemit Ltd. has introduced a new miniaturized pumping unit for its ACL automatic chassis lubrication system. This pump unit is said to be considerably lighter and smaller than any others of the same type and embodies a number of important features.

The new ACL pump is a high frequency, low-torque unit intended to be screwed directly into the speedometer-cable ventricle of the gear box. The standard cable is then replaced into the pump, there being no need for replacement of the drive by special cables. Since the pump is compact and light, it does not require mounting on the gearbox and eliminates the need for holes to be drilled in the vehicle chassis. It is factory-sealed for life and needs no attention after installation. It is also entirely self-priming and has only two tube connections, one from the oil reservoir and the other to the ring-main metering system.

Installation costs are reduced and it has been possible to peg the price to that of the previous system. The latest ACL system is capable of delivering 10 shots per mile as opposed to the four of the previous unit, and it can supply up to 30 lubrication points throughout the vehicle.

Tyre-truing machine

Research indicates that most tyres, whether new or remoulds, are not always truly round particularly after they have been run for a while. The Rocket Tyre Truing Machine which is now being distributed in the UK by Grantham Rubber Machinery Co. Ltd. has been developed to correct the out-of-round problems by eliminating high spots and the vibration problems associated with them. Tyrebalancing, alone, cannot always eliminate vibrations entirely and it is, therefore, recommended by Grantham that all tyres should be trued before being balanced.

Two models of the tyre-truing machine are available—an on-the-vehicle version and a static model which can be used in conjunction with a wheel-balancing machine.

Although the machine removes the high spots from the tread of the tyre, by a mild form of rasping, this process is claimed to improve tyre life. A reduced rate of tyre wear in out-of-round tyres is brought about by eliminating the abrasion caused by heavy high spots thumping on the road surface. Marketed by: Grantham Rubber Machinery Co. Ltd„ Grantham, Lincs.

Price: On-the-vehicle model—£275; static mode —C 480.

Anchor system

From Applied Power (UK) Ltd. comes a positive way of anchoring portable frame and body straighteners—the Blackhawk EK 145 crosstube anchor system. Special clamps fit over the cross-tube to spread the load, providing a firm anchor for angle or straight pulls.

Use of the system also avoids deformation of the cross-tube during heavy-duty work.

Another system, the Blackhawk EK 100 cross-section pull, speeds repairs on hard-toreach panels and is designed mainly for pulling floor pans without damage to rocker panels. A yoke clears the rocker panel, permitting circular-jaw clamps to get a firm grip on the panel.

This radio-telephone fits any VHF/AM stem and complies with the Post Office quirements for this type of equipment. It 101in. wide by 2i-in. high by 5iin. deep, and eighs arketed by: Cossor Electronics Ltd., Harlow, ;sex.

e Ingersoll-Rand I m pactool range has .en further reinforced by the introduction of lother unit—the 908 specially designed for e on extra tough jobs.

One of its biggest innovations is a new type hammer, forged by a patented process hich makes it very much stronger and which ould give the 908 an exceptionally long orking-life even on the heaviest of jobs.

Speed of operation of the Impactool is a ature. On heavy-draw jobs, it is said to be per cent faster than any comparable tool,

d on average rundown jobs, it achieves its aximum torque 65 per cent faster. The in

ased heavy-duty capacity of the 908 has t resulted in increased weight: it is said to light enough for an operative to use all y without fatigue.
