by David Craik • A Scottish driver is urging the Scottish Traffic Commission not to grant an international 0-Licence to haulier ER Transport because he claims ER director Eion Robertson owes him £1,300 in wages.

Nigel Eaton says he drove for now-bankrupt Robertson International Haulage of Armadale, West Lothian, where Robertson was a director.

Eaton says he returned to England after delivering a Robertson load to Spain in January 1997 to learn that Robertson International was bankrupt.

Eaton got no wages for the trip and staged a oneman protest outside Robertson's office last summer. "I know I won't get paid," he says. "If ER Transport gets an international licence, though, I fear these money problems will continue for others."

Scottish Traffic Commissioner Michael Betts recently revoked Robertson International's licence on financial grounds (CM 22-28 Jan).

The company was called before the TC after failing to pay an Austrian firm's invoice for recovering one of its vehicles on the Continent.

Betts said he would consider granting a licence to ER Transport when the Austrian problem was resolved.

Robertson says Eaton did not get his wages because Robertson International was bankrupt and could not afford to pay him.

He adds that a financial arrangement has been made to solve the Austrian problem.
