• The British Government should not sign the European agreement on the work of crews of vehicles engaged in international road transport (AETR), the Freight Transport Association has told the Department of the Environment.
In the Association's view there would be no material advantage to United Kingdom vehicle operators in UK adherence to this agreement—Government commitment to the basic features could 'well prejudice national negotiations and inevitably lead to higher costs without offsetting advantages. , The Association agrees with the necessity for drivers engaged in international 'transport conforming with the agreement when on the Continent, but it does not feel that such drivers should have to comply with the Continental regulations when still within the UK.
