Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Truck sales in the UK are set to be around the 50,000 mark this year—down nearly 2,300 on 1995, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders.

Sales of trucks and artics during last month were more than a third down on November 1995 to just 3,155, mostly due the fact that sales surged in September

as operators rushed to buy trucks before the Euro-2 emissions regs came into force.

Leyland Daf was the best selling marque in November, closely followed by Volvo, Scania, Iveco Ford and Mercedes-Benz.

The SMMT predicts that new truck sales will continue to fall, to around 49,000 in 1997 and to 47,000 in 1998.
