• Mr. MuIley has decided not to follow the Tyne Joint Tunnel Committee's recommendation to increase tolls for h.g.v. from 4s to 5s and to lower those for cars and light commercials from 2s 6d to 2s. He feels this would not meet the need to pay off the Ministry loan within 30 years.
Current tolls will therefore stand, while an urgent review is made to see if a structure consistent with the statutory need, but acceptable to all parties, can be found.
