Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A proposed shake-up of the London Lorry Ban would improve the environment and slash journey times for hauliers at the same time, say controllers of the ban.

The Transport Committee for London (TCL) wants to open up some cross-London routes at night and weekends, provided hauliers can prove they will drive past fewer homes as a result.

Chief executive Nick Lester says the new flexble approach would apply to any haulier. Such agreements would, in principle, be available to any size of operator, but are more likely to be of interest to those with longer-term permits rather than permits for single journeys."

Any concessions to hauliers would first

have to be approved oy the relevant local authorities, he adds.

The changes affect Condition 5 of the ban and are still at draft stage but Lester says they reflect attempts by TCL to provide operators with more flexibility while maintaining the bans environmental integrity.
