Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANEW range of bus bodies designed to fit all current rear-engined 36 ft. singledeck bus chassis has been announced by Strachans (Coachbuilders) Ltd., Hamble, Hants. Named the Pacemaster, in line with Strachans' policy of allocating names for all standard body types, the new bus is a front-entrance, central exit, 51-seater in standard form. Several variations of the basic design are also available, however, again in line with Strachans' practice, to meet the requirements of different customers.

The standard body fits the AEC Swift, Leyland Panther, Bristol RELL and RELH and Daimler Roadliner chassis, although the seating capacity is reduced to 49 when fitted on the latter chassis. Entrance and exit are each 2 ft. 94 in. wide, with two steps, and a level floor in the forward part of the saloon. A step in line with the rear of the exit door leads to a ramped floor towards the rear of the body. Alternatively a continuous ramp with an extra step at the exit can be specified; this feature is standard on the Bristol chassis.

For city bus operators requiring quicker passenger circulation, a 49-seater body with 4 ft.-wide entrance and exit is available (47 seats when mounted on the Roadliner). This body is ideal for use with automatic fare collection or ticket-cancelling systems where a double-width entrance is essential.

Finally, for the inter-urban or rural operator a 53-seater body (51 seats on the Roadliner) with a single entrance/exit at the front is available, this doorway being 3 ft. 3; in. wide.

On all models flat, toughened glasses are fitted to the front and rear, with a single window at the rear and double windscreen at the front. The driver's screen is recessed to minimize reflections and ,set in a pan to reduce obstruction of the driver's vision to the minimum. An optional extra is a BET-type double curvature windscreen at the front, the driver's glass being wide zone toughened.

Construction of the bodies is to Strachans' standard specification, and equipment includes Deans' entrance and exit doors, of the pneumatically-operated glider type, standard service bus-type tubular frame seats with single stainless-steel top rails, stainless-steel handrails and stanchions throughout, and eight Easco C24 type fluorescent lamps with 2 ft. 20 watt warm white tubes.

Optional extras include double stainlesssteel handrails to the seat backs, full-length roof handrail on offside of gangway, and side destination indicator. Standard heating is via three Clayton Dewandre QH17/27 unde-rseat recirculatory heaters fitted beneath the offside seats.

Interior ceilings are sprayed in synthetic enamel to customer's choice, and the specification is completed with a reversing light at the rear.
