THE pilot studies into regional transport problems being carried out by local economic planning councils were this week outlined by the Minister of Transport.
Mrs. Castle said that the integration of passenger transport services was being studied in the Tyneside area, Sheffield, Leicester, and in the area between Liverpool and Manchester, the co-ordination of goods transport was being looked into to and from Immingham, to and from Harwich, Felixstowe and Ipswich, between the West Midlands conurbation and Liverpool and to and from a major manufacturing plant in the south-east.
The co-ordination of goods and passengetransport was being studied in the Furness are: and in the area west of the line drawn fron Aberystwyth to Carmarthen.
Mrs. Castle added that other studies wer: the future of transport between Redditch Nev Town and Birmingham, transport in relation t( tourism in the south-west, the distribution o coal from a group of pits in the Nottinghamshin and Derbyshire coal fields and the organizatiol of freight sundries traffic in the area west o Dumfries.
