The Secretary of State for Scotland has approved the start in 1986/87 of a number of major trunk road construction schemes worth nearly 250 million. The following projects will each cost over 21 million and could be started by March 31, 1987:

▪ Grampian Region — Three major schemes. The A92 between Murcar and Balmedie is to be improved over a 7km(4.3 miles) at a cost of £5.9 million. The first stage of the A96 Bucksburn to Tyrebagger scheme is

2. 6km(1.6 miles) long and will cost £3.3 million. At Forres, the 2.9km(1.8 miles) bypass on the A96 will cost £3.49 million.

• Highland Region —

Three projects in hand. The first stage of the A830 Kinsadel to Mallaig

improvement will be 2.3km(1.4 miles) long and will cost £2.94 million. The A9 improvement at the Mound will include the replacement of the existing bridge over Loch Fleet and will cost £1.9 million. The bypass at Auldearn on the A96 will be 2. 3km(1.42 miles) long and cost £2.3 million.

Tayside Region — The A929 1.6km(1 mile) Dundee Kingsway to Powrie improvement will take place over the next two years and cost £3.5 million.

1111 Strathclyde Region — A 1.1km(0. 6 mile) improvement scheme on the A82 between Auchendennan and Arden at the south end of Loch Lomond. It will cost £1.5 million and construction will last nine months.

• THE Government has also announced details of the 6.6km (4.5 miles) improvement scheme to the A20 trunk road which will bypass Folkestone and Capelle-Ferne in Kent. Provision for the new road will be included in the Channel Tunnel Bill which the Government hopes to introduce to Parliament shortly.

'Ile new dual-carriageway road is proposed to run from the end of the M20 at Folkestone to the existing A20 section at Court Wood, to the east of Capel-le-Fern. The route is based on the preferred blue route set out in 1981, but with some minor changes.
