New regulations requiring the reporting of injuries, cases of disease and dangerous occurrences affecting all employees came into effect on April 1.
They also introduce a system for employers to report cases of certain industrial diseases to their employers when they are informed of their occurence by a doctor.
The Health and Safety Executive is writing to all general practitioners and hospital doctors giving them details of the new system. They will also request the doctor's help in ensuring that employers are kept informed of occupational ill-health problems in their workforces.
