Stand No. 93

FRY BROS., Ltd., of Norman Road, Greenwich, London, SE., will be showing on Stand No. 93 a 3 ton Stelfast trailer similar to that which we described in a recent issue. It may be remembered that this trailer incorporates Ackerman steering. The trailer is built of channel steel, welded at the-corners and braced, whilst the pidling cross-member is always of the same section •as.th the frame member, and this, again, is welded to the frame. Steel castiegs are used for the axles (front and rear), spring brackets, brake levers, steering arms etc., the drawbar being of channel steel. Rigidly belted to the pulling cross-member of the frame is a king:post. The drawbar draws on this through a plain bearing, which is provided with a. greaser accessible from below. There is an eye at the front end of the drawbar, to which the extension is hinged, so as to provide for all vertical movements. The drawbar is extended rearwards the length of the steering arms, and at its rearward end is a steering yoke, ball-ended,. to con, nect it with the arms of the divided tierod, which, in turn, are connected to the steering arms. It will thus be seen that the -drawbar is also a steering crank, and acareful examination will reveal that the error that would occur in the steering arm connections through the rise and-fall of the axle is so microscopical as to be absolutely negligible. There is a minimum Of tyre wear by reason of the more correct tracking of the trailer, which would not be attainable onthe central pivot-type trailer. The wheels are mounted on floating bushes with thrust washers, the floating bushes themselves being of ample thickness. The brakes on the rear wheel drums are ef large

diameter. They consist of cast-iron shoes acting on the wheel drums. The brake connections are all steel castings, and the brakes are correctly compensated. The wheels themselves are the well-known Stelfast wheels built up from sheer steel, the centres being welded clewn the seams and being provided with steel web plates, which, in their turn, are welded to the rim.

The springs arc shackled at their rear ends, and are each 3 ft. 6 ins.. long. The Stelfast trailer is made by Stelfast Wheels Ltd., 51-53, Effra Road, Brixton, London, S.W.

Fry Bros. will also be showing a body suitable for brewers mounted on an A.E.C. chassis.

Other exhibitors in the bodywork section from whom we have received no definite particulars as to the exhibits they will stage are Messrs. Tom Johnson, '15, Westgate, Bradford, who will occupy Stand No. 37; Messrs. Mayron, who will occupy Stead No. 97s, and the Westminster Coach Works, Ltd. This lastnamed concern will occupy Stand No. 67, and we presume thatthey will be showing, examples of their .14-seator bulbous-Skied char-à-banes body Which was reeently described in our columns.
