TRANSPORT (BRISTOL), LTD., are 1 shortly to apply to the Western I.icensing Authority to operate all the vehicles of their associated companie; under one licence. The number of vehicles under their control is now approximately 100, with a total unladen weight of more than 4410 tons.

The Western Licensing Authority, Mr, S. W. Nelson, was told this at Bristol last Friday when the company sought to transfer four B licensed and one contract A vehicle to A licence. Mr. T. D. Corpe, for the applicants, said ,the change was required to give the fleet flexibility, it was essential that vehicles should be interchangeable when dealing with large meat movements at the docks. They were now a nation-wide concern and vehicles tied to carry for particular customers caused serious delays.

THORNYCROFT SELL MORE

QRDERS on hand with Transport Equipment (Thornycroft), Ltd., have shown an increase in value of some 90 per cent, on those in hand on August 1, 1959. This was principally due to vehicles on order for overseas markets, stated Mr. J. W. Thornycroft. the chairman, in a review of company activities published on Tuesday.

He said that a substantial volume of sub-contract work had been obtained. and there was every indication that this type of work could be increased. However, he went on to say that in order to utilize the vacant building capacity at their Reading works, a machining line for a Ford 30-cwt. back axle unit had been installed.

SWEDISH AIR-SPRUNG BUS THIRTY Scania-Vabis Capitol buses 1 with air suspension are ,to enter Secvice in Stockholm in January following trials in that city with an experimentally equipped bus since May of last year. The suspension system has four nylonreinforced, synthetic-rubber, bellowstype springs at each axle. A representative of The Commercial Motor travelled on the experimental bus last year in Stockholm and found the ride to be of a high standard—appreciably better than that given by normal buses over some of the indifferent road surfaces in that city. r17
