Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THIS year's Scottish Motor Show, which opens 1 in Glasgow today, is the 40th in the series and includes over 150 commercial vehicles of 27 makes. Although the vehicle exhibitors are mainly distributors, the range displayed is national in scope and provides a useful opportunity for an interim review of chassis and body design between the biennial Earls Court shows.

Several makers have used the occasion to introduce new or modified models. The most outstanding innovation comes, appropriately, from Scotland's only commercial-vehicle manufacturer. It is a 32-seat underfloor-engined bus of outstanding manceuvrability and designed to meet the urgent need for an economical vehicle for use on routes on which traffic is light. With bus operators throughout the country faced by heavy demands for higher wages, its introduction could not be more timely. Other new models fall within the ever-popular medium-capacity goods range, in which the accent is on low unladen weight to contend with an arbitrary law on speed. There is also evidence that makers are modifying designs to take advantage of the increases in maximum legal gross weights, although the process is not as speedy as might have been expected.

A fair sprinkling of new components and workshop equipment dertionstrates the ingenuity of those who make the e§sential " bits and pieces" that make up a complete vehicle or take care of its maintenance.

The Show is by no means static, for the demonstration park is crowded with vehicles waiting to be tried. The exhibition is indeed worthy of an organization with a history extending over 51 years and whose Shows have enjoyed the patronage of the reigning monarch for the past 35 years.
