Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AREGULAR night service-between Liverpool, the Midlands and London is planned by a newcomer, Roberts Motor Carriers (Merseyside), Ltd., 3 Tithebarn Street, Liverpool, 2, although, so far, the company have not heard whether their tenders for British Road Services' vehicles have been accepted.

Directors of the company are Mr. A. E. Roberts and Mrs. Mary Roberts: Before nationalization, Mr. Roberts was manager arid • secretary of Motor Carriers, Ltd:, Liverpool. He served B.R.S. for over six years, his last position with the State undertaking being manager of the East Liverpool group.

Purchases and assignments of ex. B.R.S. lorries are reported from nine areas this week.

SCOTLAND

Sixty-six more lorriesand nine trailers have been added to the fleet operated by Sutherlands of Peterhead (Road Hauliers), Ltd., Peterhead. Of these, Charles Alexander and Partners (Transport), Ltd., Aberdeen, assigned 59 of the lorries (2681 tons) and the trailers, and John Hunter and Sons (Transport), Ltd., Airdrie, the remaining seven lorries (21; tons). John Hunter and Sons, who have taken over a lorry (5trms) from-Central-Garage (13athgate), Ltd., Battrgate, have also transferred a trailer to Mr. William G. D. Pollock, Edinburgh.

Central Garage (Bathgate) have in turn transferred a lorry (3 tons) to. James Rice and Co._, Ltd., Glasgow.

Mr. Ernest Sanderson, Glasgow, has made over two more.vehicles. One (23 tons) has gone to Mr. Patrick Maccrimmon, Renfrew, and the other (23 tons) to Mr. Robert Hannah, Camelon.

Mr. Donald J. Malcolm, Johnstone, has taken over a lorry (23 tons) from Messrs. William Dunn and Sons, address not known; Inter-City Transport and Trading Co., Ltd., Cumbeniauld, one (3 tons) from Mr. Campbell, W. Duguid, Denny; Mt. Sam Anderson, Newhouse, one (83 tons) from Mr. William Cameron, Glasgow; Mr. William J. Halliday, Annan, one (3 tons) from Northern (Allied) Transport and and Trading Co., Penrith; Mr. Joseph Dalbeattie, one (3 tons) from Messrs. W. C. and-G. Halliday, Palnackie, Dalbeattie; and Mr. Morris Young. Perth, one (3 tons) from Messrs. Murphy. Bros., Ltd., Thunnaston.

NORTHERN AREA

Lintzgarth Transport Co., Ltd., Parkencl, Ormesby, Middlesbrough, have acquired a further four lorries (17 tons 2 cwt.) and a trailer.

Three lorries have been transferred by J. W. Capstaff, Ltd:, Eastern and .Western Lodges, off Coach Lane, Little Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne. Two of these (5 tons 16 cwt.) have gone to J. Scott and Son (Heaton), Ltd., 6 Cragside, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne, and the other (3 tons 4 cwt.) to J. T. Easton and Son, Ltd., 15 Tynedale Place, Swalwell, Newcastle upon. Tyne.

The Northern Licensing Authority has also authorized the following assignments; two vehicles (II tons 19 cwt.) to Mr, J. K. Bowles, Inglenook, Low Conisclille, Darlington, by Messrs. F. W. Robinson and Sons, Feethams Salerooms, Darlington; one (3 tons 17 cwt.) to Mr. J. P. Gordon, 260 Neasham Road, Darlington, by Messrs. Chambers and Holiday, Garden Street, Darlington; one (2 tons 17 cwt.) to Mr.

A special A licence for a lorry (2 tons 11 cwt.) issued to Mr. E. Teesdale, Tweedmill Cottage, Brampton, Carlisle; has been revoked on the transfer of the vehicle to an ordinary 'A licence.

NORTH-WEST Two lorries (101 tons), based in Manchester have been acquired by Mr. S. Anderson, Wilson Road Garage, Newhouse, Motherwell.

A first purchaser, Mr. C. Evans, 81 Roscommon Street, Liverpool, 5, has taken oVer two lorries (71 tons).

Eight more lorries, all based at Euxton, near Chorley have been bought by Mr. R. Heath, 3 Westfield Grove, Wakefield. Two of these (183 tons) were taken over in a direct purchase, and-the others (203 tons) were FP %signed by the. Warrington Warehousing Co., 54 Market Street, Newton-le-Willows. Mr. Heath has now transferred one of the lorries (53 tons) to Messrs. Athersrnith Bros., Abbey Road Garage, Abbey. Road, Barrow-in-Furness.

Messrs. Park's Transport, 47 Portland Place; Hamilton have taken over two lorries based in Widnes. One of these • (73 tons) was assigned by. Mr. T. J. Hughes, 204 Dick Lane, Bradford, and the other (73 tons) by Messrs. Calvert Bros., Mateking House, Brock, near Garstang.

Mr. J. Massey; 40 Victory Street, Portwood, Stockport, has made over a vehicle (3 tons) to Mr, T. Cox., 72 Old Road, Heaton Norris, Stockport, and one (2/ tons) to Messrs. Davis Removals, 311 Reddish Road, Reddish, Stockport.

WEST MIDLANDS Four Birmingham-based vehicles (9 tons) have gone to Archbolds (Storage), Ltd., 88 Jack Lane, Leeds, 10. A further 12 vehicles,, including an articulated outfit (591 tons) and three

trailers,. bought by Mr. R. N. Richardson, 100 Dudley. Road East, Oldbury,I have been made over to Gleave Transport:(Audlem),. Ltd., Gobowen, near Oswestry. Six•of the lorries and two of the trailers have been assigned. One of the lorries (3 tons) has gone to Mr. E. H. Berrisford, 23 Lewis Street, Stoke-on-Trent; one (31 tons) to Messrs. Hartley's Transport,Road, Blythe Bridge, Stoke-on-Trent.; one (31 tons) to Messrs. R. and 0: Jones, Sandbach; one (7 tons) to Messrs. Dee Valley Transport, Llangollen; one (31 tons) to Mrs. M. J. EAST MIDLANDS

Mr: D: N. Holloway, Elizabeth Street, Scunthorpe, has successfully tendered for another 12. vehicles, including an articulated outfit (53 tons 16 cwt.).

Special A licences for a further seven lorries (23 tons 17 cwt.) have been issued to Harris (Northampton) Haulage, Ltd., Euston Road Garage, Northampton.

Bucks Carrier Services, Ltd., Dunn Mill, -Whitchurch, Aylesbury, have made a first purchase, of a lorry (3 tons 6 cwt.), and Messrs. Cromwell Motors,. Back of 95 Cromwell Road, Grimsby, two (6 tons).

Repeat purchases direct from B:R.S. have been made by.: Messrs. P. Goss and Son, 99a Quainton Road, Waddesdon (two lorries-4 tons 19 cwt.); Mr. L. J. Hair, Wressle, Broughton, Brigg (three-8 tons 19 cwt.); McVeigh Transport, Ltd. Regent Garage Convamore Road, Grimsby (Liao articulaled. outfits-8 tons 6 cwt.); and Moore's Transport (Ashby), Ltd. Nottingham Road, Ashby-de-la-ZouCh (three articulated outfits-143 tons).

One (3 tons) of five vehicles (16 tons 3 cwt.) acquired by Mr. T. H. Brown, Brigsley Road, Waltham, near' GrirnsbY, in a repeat purchase, has been sold to Messrs. J. and E. Pletcher and Son, 26 North Parade, Holbeach. Mr. Brown's purchase included an articulated outfit.

Mr. J. Brindley, The Close, Sharnford,, Hinckley, who has bought another five lorries (13/ tons), hastransferred one (2 tons 19 cwt.) to Messrs. East Coast Transport, 3a Red Lion Street, Boston, one (2 tons 17 cwt.) to Townsend's Carriers, Ltd., 106 Washbrook Road; Rushden, and one (3 tons) to Messrs. IL Collins and Sons, in the South. Eastern Traffic Area. Mr. Brindley has also transferred another lorry (53 tons) to Murphy r Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Thurmaston, and this has been re-sold to Bulk Transport (Leicester), Ltd., 41 Guildhall Lane, Leicester. Bulk Transport have also taken over another lorry (3 tons) from Murphy Bros. Other assignments r made by Murphy Bros. are: Three articulated outfits (1I tons 9 cwt.) to -Mr. H. Hbward, in the .Metropolitan Traffic Area and an articulated outfit (3 tons 17 cwt.) to Brownroyd Service Garage, Ltd:, in the Yorkshire Traffic Area.

Federated Conveyors, Ltd., 62 Nichol Street, 'Leicester, have taken over two lorries (6 tons) from Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough, who has also transferredvehicles to: Allen Transport, Ltd.. Eastgatc, Deeping St. JameS, Peterborough, two (6 tons); Mr. A. Birounishaw, 185 Little Glen Road, Blaby,

one (3 tons); Mr. G. L. Coles, Normanbyby-Spiral, Lincoln, one (4 tons 4 cwt.); and Mansfield Haulage, Ltd., Stacey Road Garage, Mansfield, one (3 tons).

Mansfield Haulage have also taken over a lorry (6 tons 5 cwt.) from Mr. E. Taylor, in the Metropolitan Traffic Area, and have transferred two others (16 tons 7 cwt.) to G. H. Longmore, Ltd., Mile Hill Farms, Mansfield.

W. J. Harrison (Haulage), Ltd., Ashlyn, Grayingham Road, Kirton Lindsey, Gainsborough, have had two lorries made over to them by Yorkshire purchasers. They were Mr. E. Ciabtree, Bradford (one11 tons) and Messrs. Dale Bros., 15 Victoria Street, Dinnington (one-2 tons 18 cwt.).

Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough, who has bought another six vehicles, including an articulated outfit (19 tons), has sold five of them as follows: a lorry (3 tons) to Mr. F. L. Taylor, Ailsworth; one (3 tons) to J. and E. Kenney, Ltd., 31 Scotney Street, Peterborough; one (3 tons) to Mills and Sargent, and one (3 tons) to Mr. H. I. Smith, both in the East Midland Traffic Area; and the articulated outfit (4, tons) to Mr. A. J. Ostridge, Cock Clarks.

Mr. Grange has sold a lorry (3 tons) taken over in an earlier purchase to Messrs. R. and H. Lewis, Pondersbridge. Two lorries bought from Mr. S. Harris. 20 Salem House, London, E.9, by Church Road Motors (Southend-on-Sea), Ltd., Had leigh, have been divided between Tartan Arrow Service,. 'SOUTHERN AREA Four new purchasers, each of them having bought one vehicle, are: Mr. W. A. Brown. Ladysmith, Titchfield Common (3/ tons); R. Merrick and Son, Ltd., Springfield House, 239 Coxford Road, Southampton (31 tons); Mr. B. F. Pratt, 373 Commercial Road, Portsmouth (2i tons): and Messrs. Wake Bros.
