Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PROMINENT as a shipbuilding and engineering concern, Harland and Wolff. Ltd., has vast interests in the Clyde district, with many shipyards, foundries and workshops, spread over a wide area. This means that a considerable amount of transport is going on internally, which necessitates a large fleet of vehicles.

This concern claims to possess the largest and most up-to-date foundry in the country, this being situated at Helen Street, Govan. As well as general castings, all its Diesel-engine castings are made in this foundry—not only for its own use, but for many other large marine engineering concerns in the district which are building Diesel engines. Some portions of these castings weigh as much as 21 tons, and it, is Thornycroft vehicles that convey them from the foundry to the machine shops, and from the engine shops to the ship's side, where the power units may have to be actually installed.

The company's range of Thornycroft vehicles extends from the 30-cwt.2-tonner up to the 12-ton six-wheeler illustrated on this page, the latter being used in conjunction with a trailer when the heaviest loads have to be conveyed.

Large numbers of castings for the " Queen Mary ' and for the "Queen Elizabeth " are being cast by Harland and Wolff, Ltd., and it is these Thornycroft vehicles that will handle all this traffic. Each department of the company has its own vehicles, and is responsible for all their maintenance. This is of a high order, as is borne out by the fact that some departments of the company still have in daily service Thornycroft vehicles that were delivered so far back as 1919 and have a big mileage to their credit.

Harland and Wolff, Ltd., not only uses Thornycroft vehicles in the Clyde area, but also operates a considerable fleet of them in the neighbourhood of Belfast.
