THE RT. HON. HERBERT MORRISON is to propose the toast of the jubilee of the pneumatic tyre at the Dunlop dinner and dance for the London area of the company, to be held on December 16. Several other notabilities will be present.

MR. A. WATERSTON and MR. J. L. N. POLLOCK, whose portraits are reproduced on this page, have been elected to the board of directors of the AngloAmerican Oil Co., Ltd., Both have been mainly associated with the sales and distribution activities of the company. MR. JOSEPH FARNDALE, C.B.Eo who has been chairman of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, since January I, 1931, and is one of the original chairmen appointed under the Road Traffic Act, 1930, is to retire at the end of the year. He is 72 years of age, and was chief constable of Bradford from 1900 until his Traffic Commissioner's appointment.

MR. LAURENCE H. POMEROY, M.I.Mech.E., M.I.A.E., M.S.A.E., whose portrait appears on this page, has decided to practise in London as a consultant, especially to financial interests requiring expert advice on patents. During the past two years, as general manager of the engine division of de Havillands, he was responsible for rebuilding and replanning the works. He is now consulting engineer to the de Havilland organization. Mr. Pomeroy is well known in automobile and aviation circlesin both this country and America; in the

• latter he was for eight years consulting engineer to the Aluminum Co.

MR. R. L. ALLEN, until recently manager of the Leeds branch of the Firestone Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., has become manager of the company's depot at 54-58, Oldfield Road, Salford. Promoted to the managership at Leeds is MR, R. P. RO".:HE, formerly in charge at Newcastle-on-Tyne, where MR. H. J. WELToN has assumed managerial control. These promotions, which are the result of Firestone trade expansion in the north, will free MR. W. YOUNG, the company's northern regional manager, to supervise more . closely its business in the four northern branch areas, i.e., Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and Liverpool, where Mr. E. O'HANLON continues as manager.
