Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DITRING 1929 and 1930 successful trials of -11-"horticultural tractors were organized in different parts of the country under the , auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, and arrangements are being made for similar demonstrations to take place in the spring of 1931. The trials are organized by the County Agricultural Education Authorities in collaboration with the Ministry. In this connection a note In the current issue of the journal of the Ministry of Agriculture states that it is evident an increasing interest is being taken in tractors and implements adapted for work in orchards. The fact that cultivating machinery for use in orchards is subject to certain limitations which do not apply in the case of machinery used in open-field work is being appreciated by manufacturers, and it is recorded with satisfaction that the tractors and implements tested this year were better adapted for the work in view than those used in the demonstrations of 1929.

There still appears, however, to be scope for adaptation and new construction and it is expected that power units and implements demonstrated next spring will show further improvements in design. Nothing more important has been already learnt than that adequate power is needed in the tractors used. Low-powered machines and small implements, it is observed, have their sphere of usefulness in horticultural work, but no one would claim that they should be used for the principal cultivation operations in the larger orchards. It is also firmly emphasized that for these operations a tractor of similar power to that required for open-field work is a necessity.
