• A north-western tipper operator who admitted using an overloaded articulated trailer was fined £60 by Glossop (Derbys) magistrates last week.

The operator, Mr David Gould, of Melandra Farm, Gamesley. Glossop, pleaded guilty by letter to operating a trailer which was overloaded by I ton 2cwt. The magistrates heard that Mr Gould had no knowledge of the offence when it was committed and that the driver of the vehicle in question had since left the firm's employment.

Also fined for operating overloaded vehicles were North Midland Construction Co Ltd, Nottingham (£50); Derek Lister, Beard Crescent, New Mills (£30); Francis Hallam Weaving Avenue, Castleton (£30); and James Sherrin of Rochdale (±125).
