• Limited companies face having their 0-licences revoked automatically if found guilty of "serious offences" or "repeatedly convicted of road transport offences" under a change in the law shortly to come into force. Previously, only individuals were covered by the rule.

It will leave Licensing Authorities with no option but to revoke companies' licences on the grounds of repute if managers or directors continually break the law. It will also close the loophole which allows a company owner, guilty of serious offences, to continue to be involved with a firm if he loses his licence.
