ROADLINE (UK) Ltd operates 76 depots, all of which could, in theory, be served by rail, said Dr John Gilbert, the Minister for Transport, in the Commons.

It had no delivery system relating to 19 particular depots, although a new delivery service, Relay Express, operated through 13 reception depots. The trunking method used to reach these depots was decided by individual consignors.

Traffic is collected in Dundee by Tayfreight, palletised and dispatched by rail in full wagons by late afternoon to Glasgow where the wagons connect with the southbound services arriving at Wigan at 6am the next day.

Fast to Holland

NORFOLK LINE has opened a new depot at Haydock to serve the North West. It will be replacing the depot at Leigh which the company has outgrown.

The new depot will be operating with the company's two ferry terminals at Yarmouth a n d Middlesbrough allowing urgent loads to be picked up in the morning, join the ferry and be unloaded in Holland the following morning.
