by lain Sherriff • Football has its Charltons, cricket had its Bedsers and now the LDoY has its Cannings. Following last Sunday's round at Aberdeen Donald Canning and his son Donald will both compete at the National Finals. The younger man won Class A while Dad took the honours in Class E. Both men drive for NCL at Aberdeen.

Sunday also proved to be a very successful day for the drivers of G. T. Fraser, who is chairman of the R HA Scottish area : he had two class winners and two more in third place. In addition the firm won the team award, but the overall championship went to Shell-BP driver A. Howard. The Michelin. Tyre award-a course of advanced driving tuition for the person returning the best performance in the Highway Code and coming from a fleet of not more than 15 vehicles-went to E. Gray of George Duncan's Transport. Mr Gray had only 30 penalties.

At the prize-giving Superintendent G. Souden, of Aberdeen City Police, was able to tell the drivers where they had been faulted on the road route. He highlighted the more common mistakes so that everyone benefited in some way from having competed.

Nine of the drivers had travelled 100 miles from InvernesS to the event and approaches were made by employers from that area to representatives of the National Executive Committee to look at the possibility of establishing an eliminating round there next year.
