• Mercedes-Benz deputy chairman Helmut Werner says that EC countries should use fewer trucks and more trains to move their freight.
In a Financial Times interview Werner said that such a strategy could make commercial vehicles more popular, and that it was the only politically and socially acceptable method of coping with more and more goods on the road throughout the Community. Volumes will increase by up to 60% by 1999, he says.
