• Mrs. Barbara Castle, Minister for Employment and Productivity, announced on Monday that she had approved proposals submitted by the RTITB for a levy on employers based on a percentage of their payroll in the year ended April 5 1969.
The levy is three-tiered, in which rates are 0.75 per cent where total emoluments do not exceed £5,000: 1.5 per cent for total emoluments in the £5,000 to £15,000 range; and 2.2 per cent for total emoluments exceeding £15,000.
An Order made by Mrs. Castle was laid before Parliament on Monday and comes into effect on July 16.
