WHEN Mr. G. R. H. Nugent, Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, introduced a clause into the Finance Bill last week to require all eat transporters to be operated under A and B licences instead of general trade licences and to be taxed, it was passed without opposition and will come into effect on January 1, 1959. It was estimated that some 20 or 30 transporters will be involved, and that the yield to the Exchequer would be between £2,00043,000.
