Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN IDEA to prevent corrosive damage on friends' cars has led Alex Jackson, director of Fleximarket, Ryton, Tyne and Wear to market his design of plastic linings for vehicle wheel arches.

The heavy-duty, high-density polyethylene liners are designed to prevent the highly corrosive build up of mud, snow and road salt compacting in the wheel arches and attacking the metal.

Development of Flexi-Wings only cover the Ford Transit, Escort and Fiesta range but Fleximarket hopes to extend the range to cover heavier commercial vehicles.

Several sets have been fitted to Forestry Commission vehicles operating on its Bellingham estate and four sets are being tested on National Coal Board vehicles at Stoke-on-Trent. Many other sets have been fitted to cars and minibuses throughout the North East.

Flexi-Wings for Ford Transits cost £51.17p per pair and each is attached by three self-tapping screws and a mounting bracket while a lipped extrusion allows it to grip the edge of the wheel arch for added rigidity.

Wing liners for Escorts are £34.50 per pair and a set of four for the Fiesta costs £42.55.

According to Alex Jackson, his idea will extend the life of wings of vans and cars by up to five years.
