Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I N the interesting article entitled "The Case for Thin-wall Bearings" in your issue dated October 23, there was a reference in the last paragraph to tolerances for the connecting-rod bores and crankpin diameters, both being given as 0.005 in. Surely the figure for each should have read 0.0005 in.?

We would take this opportunity of saying that, with the exception of this point, the article was most informative. C. SCHOFEELD, , Works Superintendent, Ipswich. Egertons (Ipswich), Ltd.

[This correspondent is quite correct. Tolerances for the connecting-rod bores and for the crankpins should not exceed 0.0005 in. Under "Accuracy of Assembly," the penultimate line of the first paragraph should also have ' read " . . . crankshaft tolerance, will determine . . . ."
