A WEST SUSSEX operator has opened himself up to accusations of bigotry and homophobia after withdrawing his trucks from a Gay Pride parade in Brighton.

Arundel-based haulier The Page Group has been providing vehicles for the event for the past five years.

However, boss Derek Page says that when he discovered the nature of the parade, which celebrates gay and lesbian relationships, he pulled out the trucks he had offered voluntarily.

His decision left three groups. including Brighton University. with only hours to find substitute vehicles. He says: "I'm a Christian. I can't be there supporting things not of a godly nature."

Page says he would employ a gay person, but adds: —The parade isn't a case of business; it's a case of my Christian ethics."
