1911, when the Cape )w company acquired the rst motor buses — petrolgi ed Leylands — to be :■,en ed by Cape Town uni ipality. A. C. Fenwick, general manager of Bury Corporation Tramways, took over in Cape Town in 1936, which was the year when the first dieselengined buses were introduced. He continued until 1949. He is held in such esteem that he has been elected president of South Africa's Urban Passenger Transport Association three times.
He was followed by St Helens Corporation's general manager, G. W. Robb, who held office until 1964.
