BODYBUILDING IN THEORY

FREQUENT inquiries reaching "The Commercial Motor" indicate that there is a serious need for a sound textbook on bodybuilding. The publication by Chapman and Hall, 'Ltd., of "Body Engineering," by Sydney F. Page, will therefore be welcomed generally, especially as the book is comprehensive in its scope, dealing with the design, drafeng and construction of all types of vehicle.

As far as commercial vehicles are concerned, a serious attempt has been made to cover most classes of goods and passenger body. Conventional and recently developed types of body construction are described, and attention is paid to. accessories and fittings. Regu a30 lations relevant to the construction of taxicabs are dealt with in the section dealing with bodywork drafting. Certain specialized designs, such as the Jensen light-alloy body, are described at some length, and styling is discussed.

At a price of 24s., some of the sketches employed in illustration are not of a high standard. The development of particular points is also found to be inadequate at times, the breadth of the author's view having perhaps militated against its depth.
