DURING the hearing of appeals against the granting of licences to operate bus services in an area near Douglas. the Martx Appeal Tribunal was informed that Douglas was one of the last remaining places in the British „ isles where no outside authority had to be consulted regarding services within the borough.
Some weeks ago the Isle of Man Highway and Transport Board granted a licence to Douglas Corporation to operate a service to Onchan Head, which, although outside the town, is its recognized pleasure park. The appellants were Isle of Man Road Services, Ltd., and Manx Electric Railway, Ltd. It was stated that as a condition of the licence. Douglas Corporation was asked to pay compensation to the Manx Electric Railway. it was contended this proviso made the licence ultra vires.
The chairman advised the three parties to meet and try to arrive at an amicable arrangement concerning this service before the Tribunal met again.
The members of the Tribunal are Deemster W. P. Cowley. C.B.E. (chairman), Mr. Tudor Davies and Mr. W T. Kneale.

B.U.T. FOR BOURNEMOUTH
THIS month, Bournemouth Trans' port Department is putting into service the first of 24 new B.U.T.M.C.W. 8-ft.-wide 56-seater trolleybuses. The bodies have been built to the requirements of the department and have separate entrances and exits.
RECORD TYRE EXPORTS
BR1TAIN exported 300,000 more tyres during the first haft of the year than in the first six months of 1949, when a record was sat up. This year's total is 6,106,71'..s, as against 5,770,225.
