The Latest Doings and Developments in the Bus and Coach World.

oNE of the largest concerns operating motor coaches in this country is the Lancashire United Tramways, Ltd., of Atherton, Lancashire, sikl.this concern has done much, in and around the induStrial centres of Lancashire, to popularize touring by road vehicle. So long ago as 1914 the company recognized that the, motor coach would fulfil a definite need, and their first venture was with three coaches. To=day that fleet has grown to no Meier than 70 vehicles, many of which are of Dennis and Tithe manufacture. The big fleet which they • operate is controlled by men who had been ta•ught in the school of practical experience, an this explains why the company so successfully carried the largest single party yet conveyer:111v passenger road motor. It was in 1926 that a party of 1,452 persons was conveyed in 56 vehicles, and this record, we be

hove, still remains "unbroken. This undertaking was ho light matter, but it was effected without a mishap of any kind. ,

The company are fortunately placed in matters other than the size of their fleet and their experience, being situated, as they are, in the heart of a big industrial population and on the fringe of an area which ,embraces some of the finest scenery in North Wales, the Lake District and the Penniner Dales, all of which lie within a day's oucand-borne run.

For the 1922 season the policy of the company will be to rim single-seat bookings for day and half:clay outings, weekend tours to Wales, extended tours, and trips by their special .Austin cars. Special facilities for these single-seat bookings will be provided for the 1922 season. As heretofore, a daily service to Blackpool will he run from Atherton Manchester, Eccles and the Warrington areas. The special Sunday and Wednesday service to Llangollen, which proved so popular last year, will be resumed, and Wednesday trips to Southport will. be part' of the company's regular services. That most, popular service, the Saturday Welsh Coast run, will be eontinned all through the season. In addition, .there will be the usual Sunday afternoon: and evening drives, which, when inaugurated in 1921, were highly successful.

The Lancashire operative, who has brought holiday-snaking to a fine art— does he not begin to contribute to next year's holiday fund theAnoment or the day after he returns borne from one?-has already learned to appreciate the facilities offered by the,L.U.T., and is more than ready and willing to take advantage of the single-seat booking system. In addition to their ordinary itiner aries, the company will also run coaches to all the important eventssof the .day, and, just-..as they have conveyed nunsbore of passengers to various football matches during the winter, so will vehicles be available for the. important race meetings and other sporting events whiCh may take place. Last year several six-seater Austin lanclaulets were added to the fleet. They are truly private cars de luxe ,and in

tho case of big works outings they can be put at the service of the officials, who can get ahead on the road and ascertain that arrangements are well in hand for the reception of the party. The landaulets can also be used in connection with parties which are too big for the 14seater type coach and too small for the 28-seater.

The company have just issued a booklet dealing with their arrangements for the 1922 season, which" contaihs much information which should be of value to prospective road tourists, and Irons which we observe they have a number of booking agents in the principal North Wales and Lancashire centres.
