alast month Dylan Thomas put in an appearance in these hallowed pages (cm 27 Aug-2 Sept). Not the Dylan Thomas, but Dylan Thomas Crane Hireā€”no relation. I wondered at the time if there were any other operators out there with literary monickers.

Akin Bunting, a long time contributor to CM and many other transport journals, has written to the Hawk with this one, which he says "has particular resonances for truck-operating aficionados of the printed word". Alan's offering is Coffee and Edwards, whose removal vans, based in the West Midlands, were a regular sight on British roads in the 1960s and 1970s. "Cottee and Edwards?" I hear you cry. In days gone by, the firm's namesakes were distinguished transport journalists. Brian Coffee was editor of Commercial Motor and Philip Edwards was his fiercest media rival, as editor of Motor Transport.
