• District committees of hauliers engaged in the carriage of quarry material in the North Western (eastern), North Western (western), East Midland, West Midland, Sheffield and Leeds areas of the RHA have formed the Quarry Haulage Committee (Central Region). Its function is to facilitate exchange views, discussion of problems and to make recommendations for uniform action.
At the first meeting last week it was decided to draw up a uniform schedule of rates for day work and a scale of demurrage charges. District committees were recommended to negotiate an increase of 121 per cent on quarry haulage rates with effect from December 1 1969.
The chairman of the committee is Mr. K. B. Spencer, Rhodes Transport Ltd., Chesterfield. The region covered includes Lancashire, North Wales, the whole of the East and West Midlands and the greater part of Yorkshire. Membership of the district committees is made up of over 1,000 operators.
