Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Coach tour operator Glenton Tours is to contract out the coaching side of its operations to Tellings-Golden Miller of Bytleet, Surrey and Tatter Aachen in Germany.

According to managing director Michael Rutherford, the cost of marketing and operating a luxury fleet, which is not in volved in day hire, has become too high for the company — he estimates that it costs the firm around ,21 million a year.

The new arrangement will save Glenton roughly a quarter of a million pounds a year, says Rutherford.

The tour operator's fleet of 25 Plaxton-bodied Volvos will be sold off as soon as possible and early next year Glenton will sell its garage in Charlton, south-east London. Six emloyees at the depot are to be made redundant and two will be offered employment with Tellings, which is buying 18 new coaches for the contract. Most will be in Glenton's livery, but some will be in Tellings colours.

Glenton Tours, which has made its name by offering tours to overseas tourists, has made a similar deal with German coaching company Tatter Aachen.

Following this many of its tours will now include an overnight stay in Frankfurt.
