SMITH and Robinson, the tanker haulage specialist in the Hargreaves Transport group, experience is organising 20 Road Transport Industry Training Board-approved driver training courses at its depots at Manchester and Leeds on an "all-the-year-round" basis.

The courses cover hgv Class I, Certificate of Professional Competence, tachograph training, mobile crane, fork truck instructor operating and engineering, and instruction in more specialised areas such as lpg safety, dangerous substance and industrial first aid.

The company is a member of a group authorised by the Chemical Industries Association, the Road Haulage Association and the RTITB to carry out Hazfreight (for tanker traffic) and Jazpak (package, drum and cylinder traffic) training for drivers conveying designated dangerous cargo.

Training combines both classroom theory and practical experience, and courses last from a few hours to several weeks, depending on the subject.
