Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE company's Quickfit detachable semi-trailers attract as much interest as any other exhibit on this stand because they offer a solution to the problem of saving terminal delays. It is quite a simple matter to detach one of these semi-trailers from its motive unit, leaving it standing in the yard on its front jockey wheels, in which condition it can easily be manceuered about. Coupling up with a waiting trailer is a matter of a minute or two—thanks largely to the arrangement of the eelfcentring king-pin.

Two examples are shown—one a complete outfit comprising a Bedford 2-ton short-wheelbase chassis with an 18-ft. drop-side trailer unit suitable for 5-ton loads, and the other a trailer chassis alone, measuring 19 ft. in length and being of the kind built for use with the Ford 30-cwt, chassis and suitable for loads of 3-4 tons.

This company employs the bolting, riveting and electric-welding processes in the manufacture of its chassis frames. A good example of 4-5-ton trailer of the latest pressed-steel-frame variety is on show. This is a lighter and more rigid form of construction than the ordinary form employing rolled or channel members and eros4-members with riveted gusset plates. One way in which weight can be saved, for instance, is by the use of deep rear-spring brackets. These are riveted to the sidemembers and the forward ones are connected by a transverse tube. The result of this is that scroll bars are not necessary. Those examining the trailers on this stand should note in reference to this one that the springs are no less than 3 ins. wide.

A slightly larger trailer on show is a 6-ton model incorporating an electrically welded frame, This has 36-in. by 8-in. tyres and carries a drop-side body.

A 4-tonner with a full-width frame is shown, on which is Mounted a large box. van body. This trailer frame is of the riveted type.

The largest unit on the stand is, of course, the Carrimore Lynx articulated vehicle, intended for loads of up to about 10 tons. The motive unit has an engine developing about 107 b.h.p. and its wheelbase is 10 ft—Carrimore Six Wheelers, Ltd, Great North Road, London, N.12,
