1909 Metropolitan Police Report.

The following information is included in the annual report, for 1909, of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis : in comparison with 1908, there was an increase of 1,001 in licences issued to motorbus drivers, and a decrease (of 1,728 in licences issued to "animal stage drivers" ; of 1,474 applicants, during the year, for licences to drive motorbrises, 536 failed to pass the tests; no stage drivers had their licences suspended dneing thc yoar ; .11 licensed drivers of omnibuses v ere between 70 and 80 years of ago and one was over 80 (all presumably in rhar;ze of horsed vehicles); during 1909 photographs were taken of 12,1.19 appLicants for public service lieences 28,3,17 awards were made to drivers and conductors for the return of lost property ; lost articles of the value of £28,147 were restored to their owners of 61 motorbuses presented to the Noise Committee only 18 were passed during 1909; 22,884 ." stop notices " were issued against motorbuses and motorcabs in 1909, as compared with 10,607 in 1908; .3.172 public-carriage horses were reported as unfit. During the year. 1,137 old-typc and 3 newtype petrol motorbuses were licensed.

Paris Officials Inspect London.

London is at present so far as its, traffic, at any rate, is concernedbeing inspected by a critical body of experts from Paris. Amongst these visitors are representatives of various committees of the Paris Municipal Council, M. Marriage, the managing director of the Compagnie Generale des Omnibus de Paris, the city engineers, and by a representative of the police department. London's. Iramway installation is the chief object of this visit; we trust these officials will learn amongst other lessons that afforded by the serious. congestion which our other traffic suffers on account of the tramways.

Paris Motorbuses to be Worked on Night-shift.

On and after 15th November, a service of all-night motorbuses is to hemaintained on two routes in Paris; they will serve the district of Montmatte and the Avenue de Cliehy. A large number of Parisian nightworkers petitioned for these new facilities, as, after midnight. there are no tramcar or railway facilities in the French capital.

Chemin single-deck motorbus, as our readers are aware, has for some time past being maintaining a private service between the Park Langley estate at Beekenham And the railway station. .This vehicle has now been licensed as a Metropolitan stage carriage, and so is able to ply for biro as an ordinary public earriage. The fare for the full journey is 6d.-less than half the local (lib rate. This motorbus has now ruin 3,889 /Hiles on the same set of " K .T." tires, to which. no repairs have lind to he effected.
