• An application tor a new licence by Orsett-based Paul O'Nion has been refused, by Metropolitan Licensing Authority Air Vice Marshal Ronald Ashford, following an objection from the Essex Police.

O'Nion, trading as ADM Haulage, had applied for a fivevehicle national licence but failed to attend a London public inquiry.

Refusing the application, the LA said that O'Nion had made a false statement in his application form in that he had declared there were no convictions recorded against him.

In fact, he had been convicted of operating a vehicle without an 0-licence in February 1989 and again in January 1990, and of using a vehicle in a defective condition in February 1989.
