FOR THE FIRST time for several years the annual HCVC run from London to Brighton last Sunday had a fine day which brought out one of the largest crowds the event has seen. Those who visited Brighton saw Michael Banfield's Crossley van with bodywork in the Joseph Lucas livery win the top award.

Results

Class winners were: Outright Concours d'elegance, Mr M. J. Bonfield, Staplehurst, 1918 Crossley RAF tender. Runner-up, R. A. Jardine, Maidstone, 1931 Sentinel steam tractor and trailer oufit. The winner was awarded the Barclaycard Challenge Cup and the runner-up, the Old Motor Magazine challenge trophy.

The Jack Hardwick Memorial Trophy for vans and lorries of under 15cwt went to Mr G. E. Marsh, Welwyn, Herts, with an entry of an Austin Seven delivery van built in 1929.

The Commercial Motor Challenge Cup for vans and lorries of over 15cwt but under 30cwt went to Mr M. .1 Banfield's Crossley.

The Motor Transport Challenge Cup for lorries of over 3O cwt but under 3 tons went to Mr K. Taylor of St Helier, Jersey for his 1931 Chevrolet LT 30cwt truck. .

The Modern Transport Cup for passenger vehicles with more than 20 seats went to the Eastern National Preservation Group of Basildon for their 1939 Bristol K5G double-decker.

Th e Transport World Challenge Cup for steam wagons went to Mr Jardine for his Sentinel.

The Ian Allan Buses Illustrated Trophy for passenger vehicles of up to 20 seats went to B. J. Davies of the 3650 Group, Crawley, for its 1934 Dennis Ace saloon bus.

The Brighton trophy for London-type taxis went to Mr B. Austin of Sudbury for his 1936 Austin taxi.

The Dennis Challenge Trophy for municipal vehicles went to Mr D. A. Thomas of Lacre Ltd for its 1920 Lacre L road sweeper.

The Military Challenge Cup for military vehicles went to Mr P. J. Passey, Newbury, for his 1940 Austin K2 ambulance.

The Paul A. Adorian Challenge Cup for tractors, articulated, breakdown and towing vehicles went to Mr P. A. Seymour of Ashtead, Surrey, for his 1939 Guy Wolf breakdown tender.

The Surrey Challenge Cup for lorries of 3 tons and over went to Mr R. L. Scard of Alershot for his 1933 Foden S4.

The Bedford Challenge Bowl for the best Bedford in the run went to Mr R. G. King of Willingdon, Eastbourne, for his 1943 15cwt Bedford MWD, British Leyland Truck Challenge Trophy for the best truck of fire engine went to Mr Bonfield for his Crossley; the Veteran Commercial Vehicle Trophy for the best vehicle built before 1920 also went to Mr Bonfield; Tate and Lyle Challenge Trophy for the best vehicle built between 1920 and 1930 to Southdown Motor Services Ltd for its 1922 Leyland G7; British Leyland Challenge Shield for the best passenger vehicle also went to Southdown; Ford Challenge Cup for the bast Ford went to Mr P. A. Johns of Parkstone for his 1936 Fordson truck; Charles W. Bonfield Challenge Trophy for the best restoration during the year by an HCVC member of limited means went to Mr Taylor for his Chevrolet; John Fielder Challenge Cup for the vehicle travelling the furthest distance to the run under its own power went to Mr K. A. Jenkinson of Bradford for his Leyland Titan.
