MR. LESLIE RUMLEY, sales director of Electro-Hydraulics, Ltd., manufacturer of Conveyancer fork lift trucks, is paying an extended visit to the United States, where he will study current developments in handling materials.

MR. GEORGE HALLY, managing director of the Daimler Co., Ltd., has been promoted to be Knight of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. He thus joins a distinguished band of people, including the Prime Minister and Lord Penrhyn.

MR. A. L. CASTLEMAN has resigned his chairmanship of the raiF side of the Metropolitan Regional Road-Rail Committee and has been succeeded by MR. E. Humr. The road side of the committee entertained the rail side at a luncheon recently, and a presentation was made to Mr. Castleman.

MR. H. F. E. MATHEW, assistant general manager and chief engineer of City of Oxford Motor Services, --Ltd., has been recommended by his doctor to resign. He will leav.; the company at the end of February. He has been in the passenger-transport industry for 20 years.

MR. L. HArcn, A.M.I.A.F., the oldest member of the Great Western Railway road motor engineer's staff, has just retired at Cardiff after nearly 44 years' service. He joined the G.W.R. at Penzance in 1903, when the company inaugurated its first motorbus service. He took charge of the South Wales area in 1929.

SIR ARCHIBALD MCKINSTRY, DSc., M.I.Mech.E.., M.I.E.E., is to be the second member of the Road and Rail Appeal Tribunal for a period of three years, taking effect from January 1. Formerly managing director of Babcock and Wilcox, Ltd., he is now deputy chairman of that concern. The chairman of the Tribunal is, of course, MR. GLEESON E Roilisssom,.C.B., M.C., and the other member MR. E. S. SHRAPNELLSmITH, C.B.E., F.C.S.

MR. H. KINGSBURY retired on December 31, after 47 years' service with the British Electric Traction Co., Ltd. He served as a B.E.T. representative on the boards of a number of associated companies, and his positions on these have been filled as follow:—Hebble Motor Services, Ltd., and Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co., Ltd., MR. .I. W. WOMAR; Mexborough and Swinton Traction Co. and the Rhondda Transport Co., Ltd., the EARL OF HOPETOUN; Yorkshire Traction Co., Ltd., MR. PETER YORKE.

COPE, assistant chief traffic officer, to assistant traffic manager; MR. W. HALL, area engineer, to rolling-stock engineer; MR. C. A. H. HARRIS, area engineer, to assistant staff manager; MR. 3. C. BADHAM, assistant divisional traffic superintendent, to divisional traffic superintendent (Black Country); whilst MR. E. W. PRESTON becomes general works superintendent.
