Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A new safety device has been placed upon the market by Mr. Frank Smith, Basil Street, Rusholme, Manchester, who is the patentee and manufacturer ; it is designated the Sentinel Automatic Lubrication Tell-tale.

The device consists of a lamp combined with a switch for the ignition circuit. It is fixed to the dashboard or to any other part of the vehicle, and is close to the driver. The other unit consists of a pressure switch, screwed into the crankcase, in such a position that it is in direct communication with the oil passages on the delivery side of the pump. Between the two units is an oilproof flexible twin cable.

The driver switches on the ignition and this action lights up the tell-tale lamp of the device. So soon as the engine is started and the oil pump begins to function, the pressure operates the switch attached to the crankcase and extinguishes the light. So long, therefore, es the oil pump is working properly the light is extinguished ; 'should the engine stop or the oil pump fail, the warning light comes into action. it is impossible to start the engine without the Sentinel being switched on.

The cost of the fitment is £3 10s, and it is guaranteed for 10 years.
