I have read with interest Johnny Johnson's article on Newhaven Harbour (CM November 12).
As far as East Sussex County Council is concerned the criteria referred to does not apply. Every alleged overloading report is carefully considered and the appropriate action taken. It would indeed be most unwise for enforcing authorities to lay down any known suggested criteria otherwise some operators and drivers would take the opportunity of this tolerance and overload accordingly. ft M.
